EMD2 Technology

How a tred display works

Tred is the first company to develop a new, reflective, bi-stable flat panel display technology  exclusively for signage applications.  At the core of Tred’s EMD2(TM) (electromagnetic digital display) technology is a proprietary new display material called EMFibers™ (electromagnetic fibers).  Tred scientists developed this new composite that combines polymers with optical pigments and high-power Neodymium Iron Boron (Neo) rare-earth magnetic alloys.  During manufacturing, the EMFibers are magnetically aligned creating a unique, bi-stable reflective display material.  EMD2 pixels are completely stable and require no power to sustain an image. EMD2 technology supports 2 color and multi-color displays with the promise of full color displays in the future. To change a pixel, EMFibers are written with a short magnetic pulse.  Combined with Tred’s proprietary low-power electronics and electromagnetic backplane technology, Tred’s EMD2 displays offer an ultra-low power, high contrast reflective display that is truly unique.
